Do you think the Volt makes a good Drivers Ed Car?

Since I have been using the Volt as a drivers ed car in June last year I have had several driving schools in the United States and even Canada contact me with questions about their consideration as using the Volt as a drivers Ed car. Here are some questions and answers about just that...

Q:  What do you like and dislike about using a Chevy Volt as a drivers ed car?
A:  My former drivers ed car was a Honda Civic and I didn't have many complaints about it but I assure the Volt is much better in almost every way.  I have had drivers as short as 4ft 2in and as tall as 6ft 5in while both are a push, they fit, barely... If I am driving a 2 hour drive after school, we often don't use any fuel at all, pure electric drive and the kids love that, they really like the feeling.

Q:  Was it difficult to install an instructor brake in the Chevy Volt?
A:  My mechanic installed the Civic and I was going to have him move the brake to the Volt but he passed away suddenly.  It took me just a couple of hours and some careful hole placement under the floorboard to install my instructor brake from Dualbrake.com.   I haven't had any trouble with it since the install and it works great, every day.

Q:  Have you experienced any visibility issues with the front left window post?
A:  No student has ever mentioned this although I can notice a somewhat reduced visibility behind the post however it is not noticeable unless it is pointed out.  You just move your head from side to side and it is not an issued.

Q:  Would you recommend a Chevy Volt to a driving school looking for a good Drivers Ed Car?
A:  Absolutely yes!  I highly recommend the Volt as a drivers ed car or even a personal car.  For several years I wouldn't let any strangers drive the car that I had waited three years to get.   After having it now for four years I felt it was the right time to get some students behind the wheel of this awesome vehicle.  They also like the idea that we are saving fuel plus they like the super quiet ride.

Thanks for the nice report as to the Chevy Volt specially introducing students to electric drive cars. Sorry about the mechanical issues. I was surprised as I had not read of issues with the electric motor. Oh, FYI, cars have "brakes" not "breaks." Homonyms can be tough. Thanks
